ABOUT AKIBA DAY CAMP
Summer is a time of joyful freedom, a time to run and play, a time to grow, and a time to make life long friends. Since 1967, Akiba Day Camp’s goal has been to provide a summer in a nurturing Jewish environment filled with fun experiences. At Akiba Day Camp we spend our mornings at El Marino Park doing Sports, Omanout (arts and crafts), Shirah (singing), games, and swimming. After a morning of fun in the sun we head back to the comforts of Temple Akiba to have some indoor activities like Chugim (electives). We feel that Jewish camping is a big part of developing your child’s Jewish identity; therefore, we take pride in giving our children a camping program enriched with Jewish experiences. This includes Kabbalat Shabbats, where the entire camp will be dressed in white; Israeli dancing, making Challah and singing festive Shabbat songs to help separate the rest of the week from the spiritual beauty of Shabbat. This helps Akiba Day Camp by bringing the whole camp community together and ends the week on a beautiful note.

TEEN PROGRAMS
K’far Noar is a special teen program designed just for our middle school-aged(6th and 7th grade)campers. K’far Noar is an adventure sport and teambuilding program which focuses on team work, environmental education and outdoor recreation. Every Monday K’far Noar will enjoy an out of camp adventure day trip such as hiking, biking, rock climbing, sea-kayaking, boogie boarding and much more. K’far Noar will enjoy the regular Wednesday camp field trips, as well as take part in out of camp camping trips. K’far Noar will spend the summer working to promote self-confidence, Jewish identity, and new friendships.

Avodah is a special teen travel program designed just for our campers entering the 8th and 9th grade. Throughout the summer Avodah will combine with K’far Noar on Mondays for adventure day trips. On Tuesdays and Thursdays the Avodah campers will venture out of camp and travel to the beach, mountains, canyons, amusement parks and more to have fun and enjoy what our wonderful city has to offer and the great outdoors. Avodah, along with K’far Noar will also take part in out of camp camping trips. Akiba Day Camp hopes to teach the Avodah campers the importance of team work, leadership, friendship, and fun.

C.I.T. PROGRAM
Machon is a program designed to train our 10th grade campers to better equipped to work on the Akiba Day Camp staff. Each Machon will be assigned a specific unit to work with in the morning and to help them learn through experience. In the afternoons the Machon will come back together as one group and work on projects dealing with leadership, team work, first aid, and counseling skills. Machon campers are required to attend camp for a minimum of First Session plus 3 or more additional weeks. The Machon program is a minimum six week commitment, more is always better, in order for the campers to receive adequate training in the program.

OUR STAFF
The Day Camp Director, Randee Bishoff, has also been involved with Jewish camps since childhood. She brings to Akiba Day Camp more than twenty years of camping experience. This experience ranges from being in a stroller at the day camp her parents ran, to being a camper, a counselor, and an assistant director here at Akiba Day Camp for eight years. Randee wants to share her love for Camp with your children and help them have an amazing summer experience at Akiba Day Camp.

The Akiba Day Camp staff is rich with experience in education, the arts, Judaic rituals, and athletics. Many of the summer staff have been returning to work at Akiba Day Camp for numerous years, having come up through the ranks of camp and Akiba’s Religious School. The Akiba Day Camp staffers pride themselves on being enthusiastic, caring and positive role models for the campers. We cannot wait to see you at Camp and show you the best summer of your lives!!! We know the 2010 summer at Akiba Day Camp will be one of the best summers your children will ever have, and hopefully, never forget!
