Our Vision
The vision of the Temple Akiba Religious School is to enhance our children's
knowledge, understanding and appreciation of Judaism by providing a positive
educational environment that will encourage a life-long commitment to the
practice of our faith.
Areas of Instruction
The curriculum includes the following topics,
which help build and reinforce the school's vision:
Our Faculty
Temple Akiba's faculty members are all
certified by the Bureau of Jewish Education. They bring to our Temple a
special spirit "rauch" and love "ahavah" for Judaism. It
shows in everything they do with our students.
Our Community
Family Services
Each month families and students get together for a potluck dinner, followed
by a creative service led by our children and Rabbi, culminating with
Israeli Dancing.
Class Retreats
In the beautiful mountains of Malibu, our fourth through ninth grade classes
enjoy workshops, games, and dances in a nurturing Jewish environment.
Field Trips
Each class experiences one or more field trips throughout the year. Trips
may include: Museum of Tolerance, Skirball Museum, Fairfax Boulevard, prayer
services at the beach, and the home of congregation members for Sukkot
celebrations.
Holiday Celebrations
Holidays are celebrated both in the classroom and school-wide as a
community.
Confirmation Class/Akiba High
We are proud to provide continuing higher education classes for our post
Bar/Bat Mitzvah students. Topics include: The Torah Portion of the week, Why
be different?, Who is a Jew?, Israel and God. Our students also experience
engaging, heart warming and spiritual programs.
Our Program
Our school begins and Kindergarten and
continues through the Tenth Grade.
Kindergarten through Third Grade
Primary grades meet once a week on Sunday. In a nurturing and stimulating
environment, we introduce Judaism as a way of life. Students are introduced
to the Hebrew language through games, stories, songs, art and prayer.
Fourth Grade through Seventh Grade
Adding an additional day during the week, students begin formal Hebrew
instruction and preparation for their Bar/Bat Mitzvah in the Fourth Grade.
Instruction is based on usage and understanding of Hebrew as used in both
conversation and the synagogue.
Eighth Grade through Tenth Grade
Our high school program takes place on Monday nights. The program includes
formal and informal education. The teachers engage, push and prod the
students to stimulate critical thinking skills and personal growth.
Individual Hebrew Tutoring
Students who require supplemental assistance in Hebrew are assigned a tutor
who provides a caring and sensitive approach to individualized education.
