What is Women of Reform Judaism?

Women of Reform Judaism is the organization of the women of the congregation who come together for fellowship, friendship, programs to benefit the community, social activities, for study, and, above all, for growth of the individual so that each may find an opportunity to fulfill her potential as a person and as a Jewish woman. Women of Reform Judaism provides the arena for each woman to expand and grow in a Jewish atmosphere and is a channel for the energies of each member. In short, you will be able to open new doors for yourself, leading to new avenues of opportunity and enrichment.

Why Women of Reform Judaism?

Women of Reform Judaism is the collective presence, voice and strength of women within the structure of the congregation. It provides the setting in which women meet and work together for the congregation, developing projects in which they are interested and wish to be involved. Women of Reform Judaisms cooperate with other community organizations, Jewish and non-Jewish, to achieve faster and more effective action and results.

What does Women of Reform Judaism need?

Women of Reform Judaism needs the talented, educated woman with her fresh approach, leadership potential and informed outlook. Women of Reform Judaism needs women with energy, zest for living and the desire to get involved and work to accomplish new goals. Women of Reform Judaism needs the support of all women of the congregation, including those with little or no time to spare.

Why do you need Women of Reform Judaism?

Women of Reform Judaism provides a collective identity for the women of the congregation. In this period of transition, women are reinterpreting their role and re-examining their status. Within the framework of Women of Reform Judaism, women are free to examine and explore.

How do you identify yourself? Are you equipped to answer the question, "Who am I?" Women of Reform Judaism can help you find the answer to this and other questions. Women of Reform Judaism gives you world-wide identity. Women of Reform Judaism gives you the opportunity to put your talents, time, and gifts to work for many causes, both large and small. It can enable you to enrich the life of your congregation as well as that of your own family. Women of Reform Judaism is a training ground for leaders who continue to work for Women of Reform Judaism and to branch out into other organizational fields.

What does Women of Reform Judaism do?

Women of Reform Judaism includes activities and programs that its members feel would be valuable to them, their families, their congregations, and their communities. Women of Reform Judaism women are no longer relegated to preparing tea and arranging flowers. Their skills, talents and drive have enabled them to participate in many areas, such as religious schools, youth groups, and community projects. The weight of Reform Jewish women's opinion is made known in world affairs through United Nations affiliation, and in national affairs, through advocacy. Fundraising remains a part of the Women of Reform Judaism program, as do other traditional roles.

Where does Women of Reform Judaism fit into today's world?

We live in a complex world. More women are working, if not full time, then part time, and the family structure is changing. Women of Reform Judaism is a way of belonging, of being part of a group, of involving oneself in the greater concerns of our lives. It affords the individual woman a chance to make a significant contribution, and to feel the pride that comes with knowing that she is doing something to tackle the problems of today's society.

Who is the Women of Reform Judaism woman?

The Women of Reform Judaism woman is many people: Mother, wife, daughter in her family circle. In the larger sphere, she is a member of the congregation, a local community, a nation and the world community. In fulfilling herself, she must play each one of these roles because they add up to the total woman. The Women of Reform Judaism woman is resourceful, tough, dedicated to Jewish ideals, and able to translate these ideals into practical fact to achieve constructive solutions.
