Temple Akiba is a Hamish "full service" liberal reform congregation that especially welcomes non-Jews located on the west side of Los Angeles in Culver City. In fact, Temple Akiba is the only reform congregation in the Culver-Palms/Westchester area of Los Angeles from Santa Monica south to Redondo Beach including Marina del Rey, Venice, Torrance and Manhattan Beach.

Temple Akiba membership currently consists of over 300 families, many of them with one partner of non-Jewish background. Families are important at Temple Akiba. Many of the activities at Temple Akiba are centered around the family: There are programs,classes, youth choir, youth group, religious school (K to 10th grade confirmation), nursery school, summer day camp, summer resident camp, and Havarot. There are groups for women, including Women of Reform Judaism (Sisterhood), IMA (Involved Members of Akiba.) Temple Akiba sponsors Jewish Marriage Enrichment (Encounter) weekend. We have family Shabbat services, and tot-Shabbats. We have one of the finest gift shops and Jewish libraries in the Los Angeles area. Temple Akiba also has the things you would expect from any synagogue: High Holy Day services and Purim carnival, for example. History of Temple Akiba 
Temple Akiba was founded in 1953 by 25 families who felt a need for a reform Jewish congregation in West Los Angeles. Our current facility was completed in 1965. In 1978 Temple Jeremiah of Westchester merged with Temple Akiba .  We are excited to introduce our Spiritual leader, Rabbi Zachary Shapiro, who came to Temple Akiba in July, 2006.  Rabbi Shapiro welcomes the community to come and visit our vibrant congregation for Shabbat Services.
