Akiba High (8th-12th Grade)

Schedule

All 8th-12th grade learning happens Tuesdays from 6-8pm. Tuition also includes supervised hangout time from 4-6pm in the youth lounge with dinner provided.

Eighth-Ninth Grade

In this two-year curriculum, students will move through a variety of lessons rooted in Jewish wisdom that help them to work on themselves, their relationships, and their interactions with the world. This year, they will also learn about the intersection of some of the Jewish values they study with the civil rights movement and other interfaith interactions. In addition, these grades will sign up to participate in an elective for the second half of select Tuesday sessions.

Trip: This year, all 8th-9th grade students will be eligible to sign up for a trip to the South to learn how the struggle for racial justice continues today and how it connects to Jewish values and our responsibility to pursue justice.

Post Confirmation (10th-12th Grade)

This year, 10th - 12th graders will be able to choose from two Tuesday night tracks. Regardless of which track students choose, all teens will come together throughout the year for special programs and holiday celebrations.

  1. Track A — Contemporary Jewish Ethics: A college-credit course offered through AJU and taught by Rabbi Freedman and Rabbi Shapiro. Over the course of the year, students will spend time exploring the ethics surrounding kashrut, Shabbat, medical ethics, property laws and social responsibility and how we engage in business. The ultimate goal is for students to develop an understanding of these fundamental pieces of our tradition and determine how they might apply the underlying values to challenging ethical decisions in their own lives.

  2. Track B — Jewish Learning and Community : A combination of formal Jewish learning with Cantor Lonee and Rabbi Shapiro, along with informal social hangout time and community-building activities.

Trip: This year, all 10th-12th grade students will be eligible to sign up for a trip to New York City to discover the city through a Jewish lens! We will learn about the city's central role in American Jewish immigration, culture, and religious life. Along the way, we'll experience iconic Jewish neighborhoods, enjoy classic New York deli food, and visit some of the city's most famous landmarks.
