About the Honorees
Bob Knopf's experience at High Holy Day services more than 30 years ago sparked his dedicated involvement with Temple Akiba. Bob just completed his second term as President of the Temple and was a prior Vice President of Administration. He has had a continuous presence on our Board and committees since 1982. Bob brought Sharon Krakoff to Temple Akiba and she felt so welcomed by the community and Rabbi Maller, she also joined. Sharon has been on the Temple Board and various committees, including the Gala Committee most recently. She served as Co-President of the Sisterhood, among other positions, and is now Parliamentarian.
Anita and Scott Markowitz came to Temple Akiba looking for a preschool for their now five year-old twins. As they say, it was "Beshert." They found a home beyond the Early Childhood Center and began volunteering. Scott, the current Vice President of Extensions, founded and played on our recent Championship Softball Team. They've organized Jewish Heritage Dodger games for the Temple and have chaired our Casino Night and Purim Carnival Silent Auction, all in an effort to build community.
Elizabeth and Morris Zlotowitz were in search of a Rabbi to inspire their spiritual Jewish growth. That led them to Rabbi Shapiro, Cantor Frailich and Temple Akiba, where they found a warm and welcoming community. They immediately became involved. Elizabeth is the Vice President of Membership and chairs the Adult Retreat. Morris is the Vice President of Finance and active in the Men's Group. Elizabeth and Morris are a warm and welcoming presence on Shabbat and at many other temple events.
