Sixth Grade Judaica Curriculum

The year will be framed by the importance of this time in the students’ lives as they begin to grow up and prepare for B-Mitzvah. The 6th grade curriculum focuses on Mussar, or the study of Jewish virtues. Through discussion, role-play, and games, this curriculum accounts for the complexity of life and will allow students to ask questions about who they are and who they want to be. The 6th graders will also join the 4th and 5th graders for a weekend retreat.

Seventh Grade Judaica Curriculum

The year will be divided into two parts. The first part will contain lesson that help them explore social and emotional growth through the Jewish tradition. During this time, they will continue to reflect on what it means to become a B-Mitzvah. The second part of the year will dive into the Jewish history on antisemitism, the Holocaust, and Israel. Students will learn to apply the trends and lessons from history to the world we live in today. 

Hebrew Language Instruction (6th Grade)

6th graders learn the Hebrew letters, how to decode Hebrew, and apply their Hebrew skills to blessings and prayers that they will lead at their B-Mitzvah. The blessings and prayers they learn include the following: Shabbat Candles, Short Kiddush, Hamotzi, Tallit Blessing, Shehecheyanu, Bar’chu, Sh’ma, V’ahavta, Mi Chamocha, Long Kiddush, Avot V’Imahot, G’vurot, Torah Blessings, Haftarah Blessings

Master Prayer

As part of their Monday night experience, 6th and 7th graders fine tune their Hebrew and prayer skills by practicing and singing with Cantor Lonee.
