Akiba High (8th-12th Grade)

Schedule

All 8th-12th grade learning happens Mondays from 6-8. Tuition also includes supervised hangout time from 4-6pm in the youth lounge with pizza provided.

Eighth-Ninth Grade

In this two-year curriculum, students will move through a variety of lessons rooted in Jewish wisdom that help them to work on the self, their relationships, and their interactions with the world. These grades will also sign up to participate in an elective for the second half of select Monday sessions.

Confirmation (10th Grade)

Students will learn with a member of the clergy and explore how they are a link in the chain that is Judaism. This year will include an optional trip to Washington D.C. January 23rd-26th 2026 to attend L’Taken and will culminate with a special confirmation service on May 22nd, 2026 at Temple Akiba. Confirmands will also sign up to participate in an elective for the second half of select Monday sessions.

Post Confirmation (11th-12th Grade)

This year, ALL 11th- and 12th-graders will come together one Monday a month to explore some of the big questions they face in shaping their Jewish identity with our Director of Youth Engagement, Leah Penso. During these sessions, we may also gather as a community to celebrate holidays or hear from a guest speaker.

For the remaining Monday sessions, 11th- and 12th-graders will have two options for learning:

  1. Regular Track: Explore Jewish texts and traditions with a member of the clergy and/or another member of the teaching team

  2. JLE (Jewish Learning Experience) Track: NEW for the 2025-2026 school year, Temple Akiba will offer JST 358 : A History of Jewish Immigration. This college-level course allows students to earn three undergraduate college credits through American Jewish University and is open to 11th- and 12th-grade students with a 2.5 GPA or higher. It will be taught on Monday nights by a combination of Rabbi Freedman and Rabbi Shapiro. Click here for the course objectives and learning outcomes. Please email Rabbi Freedman for more information.
